Field Trip Leadership Training
The Field Trip supports and encourages young people to pursue opportunities to lead peers and other young people through camps both within the state, Australia and overseas. In recent years, The Field Trip has held both day camps and overnight camps, as well as sending Field Trip members overseas to camps and programs in America, Cambodia and Bali. In January 2021, in partnership with One Voice, The Field Trip ran Camp Elevate. In July, we ran Camp Connect and in January 2022, we ran Camp Calm at the Blue Light Youth Camp on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in Maldon, Victoria.
To prepare to run these camps for kids, we hold leadership training or 'Driver in Training' (DIT) programs, camps and sessions for potential and current drivers in training, young people ages 14-17. These programs (or camps) happen twice a year - in April and September school holidays - as leadership preparation for our main camps in summer and winter. Field Trip leadership training includes understanding Field Trip values and the Field Trip's Child Safe Policy, protocols and procedures, creating a safe space for young people, being inclusive, how to plan and deliver programs effectively for children, conflict resolution techniques, effective leadership and working well within a team environment. All prospective drivers (leaders) for Field Trip Camps ages 15+ (though we begin training from aged 14), and must attend these leadership training weekends/camps to be considered and eligible to be an employed leader at our main summer and winter camps.
Our next Leadership Training Camp will be held April 23-24, a weekend in the April school holidays at the Castlemaine Community House. It is a day camp, 10am-4pm each day (not overnight). There is no cost for the weekend. The program includes leadership development training by qualified experts and Field Trip mentors. Bring your own lunch and water bottle.
To express your interest to attend this leadership training weekend, please read the terms and conditions and complete the form below.
